Through God's Eyes
When God created woman as man's helpmeet, He made something extraordinary. After completing His masterpiece, God placed man in a garden with specific instructions — but God also saw man's loneliness, and from that need He fashioned a helpmeet. Adam called her Woman. Adam and Eve would face their own challenges in the seasons ahead, but even then, the plan was already set in motion.
The Virtuous Woman
In his epilogue, Solomon asks a timeless question: "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies" (Proverbs 31:10). He goes on to describe her — and when you read his words closely, you realize you already know her.
She is the successful businesswoman and the hockey mom. The counselor. The baker next door. The one everyone is talking about, and the one who says the right words with a touch of gentleness. She is the close partner in seasons of deep sorrow.
Yes, you've met her. She is the one working on behalf of someone else, rarely taking thought of her own situation. She rises early to provide for her family in hard economic times. You'll find her at hospitals, nursing homes, and nurseries, sharing a bit of daily cheer.
The role of woman, since the beginning of time, has been that of a helpmeet — and when God moves her to act, she does exactly that. Solomon, I believe we have found that virtuous woman.
Through Our Eyes
On this day, we pause to recognize the women in our lives — the ones who were there for us in our highest moments and in the very darkest of our existence. Whether she is your mother, your grandmother, your aunt, your spiritual adviser, or your best friend, today we pause to tell her thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to care for me when I didn't care for myself. God placed you here with a specific purpose in mind, one that blossoms like a summer flower in due season. The help you provide is one of caring, compassion, nurturing, and love — even giving your very last to advance someone else's cause.
To the Almighty God, I say: thank You for this precious creation, called of Adam, Woman.
